William “David” Hargis, 53, of Martinsville, passed away on Saturday, February 2, 2019 at Franciscan Saint Francis Hospital in Indianapolis after a long illness. He was born on November 8, 1965 to Charles William and Norma Fay (Bray) Hargis in Somerset, Kentucky. David graduated from Brown County High School with the class of 1984. After high school, he attended Tri State Semi Truck Driving School and worked for many years as a truck driver before becoming ill. Over the years, he also worked as a mechanic, an auto detailer, and owned a towing company. He married his best friend and the love of his life, Christena “Chris” (Hanson) Hargis, on May 6, 1984. In his spare time, he enjoyed fishing and above all, spending time with his grandchildren and other family. He collected Hot Wheels and enjoyed shopping at flea markets. A sometimes ornery husband, father, and pappy, he often lovingly teased and joked with his family. David is survived by his family and friends including his wife, Chris Hargis of Martinsville; sons, Justin Hargis and David Hargis both of Martinsville; daughter, Kimberli (husband, Bryan) Dinkens of Greenwood; mother and father, Charles and Norma Hargis of Martinsville; sister, Shana (husband, Matt) Gritzer of Greenwood; foster-sister, Connie Sgro of Franklin; and grandchildren, Connor Dilbone, Kaylee Hargis, Jaxson Hargis, Ezra Dinkens, Emerson Hargis, and Aiden Dinkens. He was preceded in death by his sister, Lynda Clay. Family and friends are invited to visit on Friday, February 8, 2019 from 5:00 pm to 9:00 pm in the chapel at Neal & Summers Funeral and Cremation Center in Martinsville. A funeral service celebrating his life will be on Saturday, February 9, 2019 at 2:00 pm at the funeral home with an hour of visiting prior.
