Venita Ann Smith, 62, of Columbia passed away suddenly on Sunday, February 24, 2019. A visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., Saturday, March 9, 2019 at Parker-Millard Funeral Service, with a funeral service to follow at 12:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Venita was born on August 25, 1956 in Columbia to the late Amos Cole and Virginia (Smith) King. She obtained her education through Hickman High School and following her schooling she took a job as a housekeeper. Little did she know at the time that her job as a housekeeper would turn into her 40 year career which included working for several hotels here in Columbia and also for the University of Missouri. In addition to being a dedicated worker, Venita also helped babysit children throughout the years to supplement her income. Venita enjoyed doing crossword puzzles and jigsaw puzzles, and thoroughly enjoyed playing her Nintendo video games. She will forever be remembered for her famous fried chicken on which she made for friends and family on numerous occasions. She is survived by two sons: Marcus Smith Sr. and Marcellus Smith; one daughter: Lalita Smith; three brothers: Bernard King, Deon Boone, and Carlos Dawson; three sisters: Bettina King-Daniels, Monica King, and Carlis Boone-Jackman; 9 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; three uncles: Ernest Smith (Ruby), Dennis Smith, and Harry Smith (Charlene); and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. In addition to both of her parents, Venita was preceded in death by her stepdad Archie King; one brother Anthony King Sr.; and two grandchildren: Monquiez and Monquael Smith.
