Malissa Jane McCallum Smith, age 81, of Lumberton, passed away Wednesday, February 6, 2019, at Morning Star Nursing Center in Pembroke. She was born on March 14, 1937, in Robeson County to the late Clarence McCallum, Sr. and the late Nancy Thompson McCallum. She was formerly employed with UNCP in the housekeeping department.

Along with her parents, she was also preceded in death by two brothers, Cleveland McCallum and Clarence McCallum, Jr., and one sister, Pattie Mae Tyler.

She is survived by her husband, Milton O. Smith of the home; three daughters: Cynthia Smith Martin and husband Eli of Lumberton, Cathy Smith Carter and husband Hugo of Charlotte, and Delphine Smith Withers and husband Darrell of Kannapolis; seven grandchildren: LaCresa Powell Morgan and husband Derek, LaShawnda Powell, Trevor Carter, Eli Martin III, Brycen Hampton, Brianah Carter, and Jillian Hampton; one great-grandchild, Dorian Morgan; one brother, William Earl McCallum of Lumberton; and five sisters: Ora Mae Floyd of Lumberton, Alena Williams of Rocky Mount, Mary Alice Brown of Lumberton, Adell McCallum of Lumberton, and Floretta Jones of Rowland.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday, February 12, 2019, from 6:00-8:00 PM at Floyd Mortuary & Crematory, Inc. in Lumberton.

A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, February 13, 2019, at 1:00 PM at Floyd Memorial Chapel with Bishop Leo Dawson officiating. Burial will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Lumberton.
