Neldon “Nick” Clayson September 16, 1943 – February 22, 2019 Share this obituary Send Flowers View/Sign Guest Book| Send Private Condolences| Send Sympathy Card On Friday, February 22nd, 2019, Neldon “Nick” Clayson, of Spanish Fork, UT, passed away suddenly at the age of 76 due to a heart attack. It is a comfort to know that his last day on this earth was a happy one, as he’d spent the day with his wife, helping good friends, and getting a haircut at his son’s barbershop. Nick was born on September 16th, 1943 in Murray, Utah to Delpha and Ray Clayson. He was the fourth of 8 children, and served in the National Guard during his twenties. On September 29th, 1972 Nick married the love of his life, Deone “D” Leavitt Clayson. Always a hard worker, he built bridges and hung iron with Iron Workers Local Union 27 for most of his life, and then traveled through many states running hotshots (small trucking loads), often with his wife and/or a grandkid at his side. As the kind of guy who’d drop anything for those he loved, Nick was there for countless flat tires, furniture moves, leaky sinks, hauling hay, and more. Taking care of the people he cherished was at the top of his priorities, and he went out of his way to help anyone who needed him. He was full of love, and so proud of his family. Anyone who met him would remember how his blue eyes twinkled when he spoke of his grandchildren and new great-grandchildren, and how he was looking forward to more babies in the family. They’d tell you how proud he was of his children’s accomplishments, and how you should definitely go get a haircut at Todd’s shop. Those who know Nick always knew they could find him up to The Ranch. He spent any time he could spare in his camping trailer on the family property, and he loved the forest and being outdoors. There was hardly a day during the Summer, or during the Elk and Deer hunts, where you wouldn’t find him in his family camping spot, or on the four-wheeler sporting bright orange with his binoculars around his neck. He loved sharing his camping trips with anyone who would join him, and all were welcome to stop by and eat a meal around the fire or stay a night (or three). Nick is preceded in death by his parents Ray and Delpha, his brother Boyd “Butch”, Sister Colleen, and his Daughter Kimberly. He is survived by his wife (“D”) of 47 years, his sons Rick (Shareen) Golish and David “Todd” (Terri) Clayson. He leaves behind 11 grandchildren: Angie (Chris), Curtis (Tayla), Cole, Nicole (Chris), Shayla (Dallas), Daniel (Caitlin), Ryan (Aspen), Chandler, Ashton, Dillon, and Riley (Maggie); and 6 great grandchildren: Olivia, Amelie, Peyton, Ben, and Sam. He is also survived by siblings Afton, Darleen, Jay “Beaner”, Kenny, and Rusty; as well as many cousins, nieces, and nephews. A small visitation/viewing will be held at Broomhead Funeral Home (12600 South 2200 West, Riverton, UT 84065) at 1PM on Friday, March 1st. It will be followed by a graveside services at Elysian Burial Gardens (1075 E 4580 S, Millcreek, UT 84117).
