Martha Louise Parker March 31, 1931 – February 26, 2019 Share this obituary Sign Guestbook| View Guest Book Entries Martha Louise Parker was born on March 31, 1931 in Chattanooga, Tennessee to Lester A. and Willie Bell (Denton) Palmer. One of six children, she grew up in the Chattanooga area and attended school until the age of 17. Getting married, she started her family and was blessed with three boys. First Tony while still in Chattanooga, then Stephen while living in Rossville, Georgia, and then Mark while living in Monterey, California. In the early 1970’s, Martha met the love of her life, George Parker in Denver, Colorado. They moved to Biloxi, Mississippi and the two officially got married. After moving to Clovis, New Mexico to be close to family, George passed away in 1986. Martha was a hard worker and worked several years in the service industry. Among those jobs, she was a waitress and then worked in the nursing home in Clovis, New Mexico. Again to be close to family, she moved to Harper, Kansas where she worked as a waitress and then as a home health aide for the Harper County Health Department. Her sons remember moving around a lot and will be forever grateful for their mother’s care and how she always provided for them. A hard worker, she also knew how to enjoy and experience life. Martha enjoyed fishing with her husband, George in Biloxi, doing her embroidery, watching old movies, cheering for her Atlanta Braves and Denver Broncos, and especially being with her grandchildren. One highlight she had was her trip to Hawaii with all three of her sisters. Living all over the United States and even in Germany, she cherished the friends and life she made in Kansas. Even though Martha had just moved to Spring View Manor in Conway Springs, in just a few short weeks she made many friends. She was very happy living there and appreciated how well the staff treated her. On February 26, 2019 and at the age of 87 years, 10 months, and 26 days, Martha passed away after a lengthy illness. She was preceded in death by her parents, Lester and Willie Bell; siblings: Joyce Gordon, Betty McCain, and Ronny Palmer; brothers-in-law, Joe Gordon and Fred Teague; and daughter-in-law, Sandy Carlton. Martha is survived by her children: Tony Carlton of Denver, Colorado, Steve Brooks and his wife, Bobbi of Danville, Kansas, and Mark Brooks and his wife, Donna of Harper; sister, Barbara Teague of Owasso, Oklahoma; brother, John Palmer and his wife, Rosa of Dalton, Georgia; brother-in-law, Clayton McCain and sister-in-law, Brenda Palmer, both of Chattanooga; six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; many beloved nieces and nephews; and numerous friends.
