Lola Jean Hughes, 86, of Christiansburg, passed away on Monday, February 11, 2019. She was born August 16, 1932 in Coal City, WV. Jean was a loving wife and mother and a terrific grandmother and great-grandmother. She enjoyed sewing and crafting and was a cook extraordinaire. Jean was a long time member of Calvary United Methodist Church in Christiansburg. She was preceded in death by her parents, Samuel and Pearl Gross; an infant son; her beloved husband of 61 years, Clifford S. Hughes; as well as five sisters and three brothers. Jean is survived by her children, Clifford S. Hughes II and wife Mary Erwin Hughes; Sherry Hughes Haley and husband C. Wayne Haley; grandchildren, Ashley Hughes Strand and husband Stephen, Liann Haley Fuller and husband Jimmy; great-grandchildren, Aubrie and Emmy Fuller, and Emily Strand; as well as sister-in-law, Nina Hughes. A Memorial Service will be held at Calvary UMC on Saturday, February 23, 2019 at 2 p.m. Services will be conducted by Rev. Sebert Rorrer. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the Memorial Service. In lieu of flowers, please consider donations to the Montgomery Co. Emergency Assistance Program.
