Kay was born on December 6, 1947, at Sabetha, Kansas, the daughter of Lyle K. and Ruth L. (Breeden) Dodge. She grew up on the family farm at Fairview, and graduated from Fairview High School in 1964. She then attended business school in Topeka, and began a career as a legal secretary. She continued that career until her retirement at age 70. Quilting and sewing were Kay’s favorite hobbies, and she enjoyed keeping a flower garden and working in the yard. She always had pet dogs, and had a soft spot for her current trio of Molly, Maggie and Teague. Kay suffered the tragic loss of her son, James Allen Lowder in 2003. His boys – Quin Allen Lowder and Jeremiah Logan Lowder – have been the light of her life, along with her surviving son, Scott Lowder, of the home. She and her three guys enjoyed a driving trip to South Dakota last year, making memories that Kay treasured. She is also survived by a sister, Carol Lyon and her husband, Kelly (whom Kay thought of as her own brother), and a brother, Kim Dodge, all of Yates Center; a nephew, Kyle Lyon and wife Patti, and their children Kieley and Aaron, of Independence, Iowa; a niece, Dixie Colquhoun and husband Nick, and their children Delaney and Addison, of Newkirk Oklahoma; and other relatives and good friends. The family plans to privately celebrate Kay’s life at a later date. Contributions in her memory to “ACARF” (Allen County Animal Rescue) may be sent in care of Campbell Funeral Home, PO Box 188, Yates Center KS 66783.
