Joy Dolores (Douglass) Crosby, 90, passed away peacefully on February 24, 2019 at home in Flora, MS. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 pm on Friday, March 1, 2019 at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Ridgeland, MS. Burial will be in Comstock Cemetery near Montville, CT. Joy was born on July 9, 1928 in Huntingdon, PA. She was the daughter of Clark and Grace Douglass. She spent much of her childhood in and around Huntingdon. She attended Juniata College where she met and married Harry C. Crosby Jr. Together they moved to Cayuta, NY, where she lived until Harry’s death in 2009. During these years she supported Harry’s writing typing his stories for publication. She had a passion for gardening, worked as the church librarian at St. Mathews Episcopal Church, and was a prodigious reader. Following Harry’s death in 2009 she moved to Walworth NY to be with her family. She was active in Grace Episcopal Church in Lyons, NY where she developed many close friendships. Joy is survived by her two children, Mary, (Robert) Greene of Kemmerer, Wyoming, and John, (Thumy) Crosby of Flora, Mississippi; her grandchildren, John Paul, Joseph, Maria, James, Grace and Margaret; her sister Anne, (Daniel) McCulley of Newport, Rhode Island, and her nieces. In lieu of flowers the family would prefer that contributions be made to the charity of their choice. A guestbook is available at breelandfuneralhome.com.
