Emma’s Obituary Emma G. Hinds, age 76 of Elwood, passed away on Monday, February 25, 2019 at St. Vincent Mercy Hospital in Elwood following a brief illness. She was born October 16, 1942 in Kentucky, the daughter of Willie Kirk and Anna Susan (Pitcock) Curtis. She graduated from Frankton High School in 1960. Emma married the love of her life, George A. Hinds, on October 28, 1967 and they shared over 51 years of marriage together. In addition to being a devoted homemaker, she formerly worked as an attendant for more than 10 years at Goforth Laundromat in Elwood and retired in 2004 from Burr-Patterson after 10 years of service. Emma enjoyed reading and solving Sudoku puzzles regularly. She also enjoyed animals, spending time with her cats, rummage sales, and hunting for antiques. More than anything, Emma’s greatest joy was cooking and caring for each one of he family members. She will be greatly missed by all who loved her. Emma’s family includes her husband George A. Hinds of Elwood; daughter, Shannon Hinds-Hammitt (husband David) of Elwood; sister, Dana Jameson of Frankton; and several nieces and nephews. Emma was preceded in death by her parents; son, Gabriel Todd Hinds in 2016; sisters Doris “Joyce” (husband Butch) Jackman and Hallie “Geraldine” Welch; and brother-in-law, Charles Jameson. A funeral service honoring Emma’s life will be conducted at 1:00 pm on Friday, March 1, 2019 at Copher Fesler May Funeral Home in Elwood with Pastor Amos Carmichael of Zion Chapel Church officiating. Burial will follow in the Elwood City Cemetery. Visitation for family and friends will be held from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm on Friday prior to the funeral service at the funeral home.
