Dorothy Schaeffer, 80, of Mint Hill, died Monday, February 4, 2019, at CMC University in Charlotte. Dorothy was born in Salisbury, NC, on March 27, 1938, the daughter of Luther Calvin and Nellie Gaye Martin Cress. She grew up there and went to work for FLA Orthopedics. She retired from there at the age of 74 after 36 years of service. Many will remember the seamstress who brought the suitcase for her lunch. Whether packaging stays, driving the forklift, or doing her seamstress tasks, Dorothy worked many of the stations in her company. When not working, she enjoyed shopping, fishing with her grandchildren, watching movies, reading romance novels, reading her Bible and not asking for directions. Most of all, she loved the time spent with family and friends. She is survived by her children: Jack (Melissa) Sides, Sr, of Mint Hill, NC; Kathy (Mike) Skinner of Concord, NC; Vernell Wilder of Mint Hill, NC; and Victoria Schaeffer of Mint Hill, NC. She is further survived by grandsons, Christopher, Darrel Jr, Aaron and David; numerous other grandchildren, great grandchildren, other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents and siblings. A service led by Mr. Michael Neddo honoring the life, love and blessing of Dorothy will be held at 3 pm on Friday, February 8, 2019, in the funeral home chapel.
