Obituary for Barbara Sims (Marcinkiewicz) Barbara (Marcinkiewicz) Sims, wife of the late Jazz Musician Al Sims, passed away in her home in Cumberland, RI on February 24th. Born in Pawtucket, she was the daughter of the late Stanley and Anna (Iwuc) Marcinkiewicz. Barbara was an accomplished vocalist and model and did voice overs for several local radio stations. She was a devoted mother and also substitute taught at Mercymount Country Day School where her children both attended. She leaves behind a daughter, Loral Sims-Young of North Attleboro, MA, and a son, Alan J. Sims of Cumberland, RI along with 2 grandchildren. Barbara was the sister of the late Edward Marcinkiewicz, Albert Martin, Joseph Marcinkiewicz, Gertrude Marcinkiewicz and Stella Marcinkiewicz. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held in St. Jude’s Church, Front St., Lincoln on Thursday at 10:00 a.m. Relatives and friends are asked to meet at the church. Visitation will be held on Wednesday from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. at the CHEETHAM FUNERAL HOME, 1012 Newport Ave., Pawtucket. Interment in the Rhode Island Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Exeter, RI. In lieu of flowers donations in Barbara’s name can be made to Mercymount Country Day School at 35 Wrentham Rd., Cumberland, RI 02864 in support of the Visions of Excellence Program.
