Obituary for William Robert Sanford William Robert Sanford, 93, of Millwood, VA, passed away on Wednesday, January 9, 2019. Born October 16, 1925 in Millwood, he was the son of the late William Robert Sanford, Sr. and Beatrice (Withers) Williams. William was a veteran of the US Army where he served in WWII as well as Okinawa, Japan and was in the segregated forces. He always said he almost lost his life three times but his mother’s spirit was with him. He attended the WWII Memorial Dedication in Washington, DC. He was a supervisor with Woodmark Industries. He was of Baptist faith. He was an avid horseracing for over sixty years and baseball fan. He loved to dance and travel. His last trip was to New Orleans. He loved playing cards especially spades. He never thought he would live to see the first African American President elected. He is survived by one son, Robbie Sanford of Virginia Beach, VA; two grandchildren and Mrs. Delia Hall, companion and care-giver for 28 years; three step-sons, Wesley, Johnny and Nimrod. Graveside service will be held on Wednesday, January 16, 2019 at 12:00 noon at Pleasant View Memory Gardens with military honors. Arrangements by Brown Funeral Home.
