Gloria Sukraw Macnab, age 63, died on January 1st, 2019 in her home in Grants Pass, Oregon, surrounded by family after two months of hospice care. She was born on October 2, 1955 in Klamath Falls, Oregon, to Orville and Marjory (Britton) Sukraw and grew up in a family with three siblings: Sally, Trudy and Peter. Gloria is survived by her soulmate and the love of her life, John Macnab, 2 dogs, 1 squirrel and 647,391 bees. As a CPA, she made sure that she accounted for each and every one of her beloved bees.
As the daughter of an Eastern Oregon potato farmer, Gloria had an early passion for nature and her fascination for insects and her collection of rocks never waned. Gloria’s tenacity was tested at an early age: she spent several months at the Shriner’s Hospital and after multiple surgeries her enduring spirit lead her to being the poster child for the Shriner’s community at the age of seven.
Gloria was a natural mother figure and mentor to many who knew her; her kind, compassionate heart gave wisdom and encouragement to many of her adopted family, friends and grandchildren. As the Patron Saint of Perpetual Projects, Super G never ceased to amaze: she taught herself woodworking, illustrating, painting, was an avid musician and loved all creatures, whether big or small. An avid learner, Gloria’s book collection could rival The Library of Congress and her love for reading and learning was evident in her career: she completed her PhD at the age of 40 and never stopped learning in both her professional and personal lives.
In addition to nurturing life around her, Gloria loved to travel to learn about and experience new cultures; she visited her sister in China and spent time exploring Vietnam with her husband. Her careers also took her on many adventures. She worked as a nurse in California and drove cross-country as a long-haul truck driver for several years; her experience in industry lead her to complete her CPA and she worked for KPMG Peat Marwick and Mentor Graphics before finding her career path at Garmin AT in Salem, OR. She fostered growth and innovation while at Garmin and enjoyed collaborating with many wonderful coworkers.
Prior to her battle with cancer, she enjoyed a ‘retired’ lifestyle on her Chocktoot Creek Ranch property in Central Oregon. There she spent her time improving the health of the forest and wildlife habitat and of course collecting rocks. Her battle with cancer only refined her character as she handled each challenge with a positive attitude and courageous strength. Gloria was a person that brought a smile to everyone’s face and we are all truly blessed to have known her. Her bright light, compassion, wisdom, smile, and sense of humor are loved and missed by so very many.
Gloria’s funeral will be held on Wednesday, January 9 at 1PM at the St. Anne Catholic Church (1131 NE 10th St, Grants Pass, Oregon 97526). Internment will immediately follow at Hillcrest Memorial Park (945 NE Hillcrest Dr, Grants Pass, Oregon 97526) and a reception will be hosted back at the St. Anne Catholic Church after the internment. Donations in honor of Gloria can be sent to the Shriner’s Hospitals for Children®.
