I just learned that John had died and wanted to share a memory - though late.  John did our wills several years ago and was a memorable attorney.  Since I am an attorney I know what is memorable.  He did an excellent job in counseling and preparing our wills, making us comfortable and overall it was just a pleasure dealing with John.  Condolences to his family.  


I am just now settling up with some things left over from my parents' estate & went online to find John's address.  I am so shocked.  He was so kind to us when my mother passed away and my sister & I were tasked with settling up the estate.  My Dad had (with the help of his buddies from Raytheon) stolen a target missile, over 15 feet long.  It was a different time in America. John helped me contact the FBI to see what on earth to do with the thing.  He thought it was so funny.  I gave him a picture of it before Homeland Security came to take it away.  John framed it and had it on his office wall.  He was a character.  Anytime I called him with questions, long after I left Pinellas County, he was kind & funny.  I talked with him last summer - 2018.  I am so sorry to hear he's gone.  Best of comfort to his family.  I know losing him is a great loss.  He was a wonderful man.

I just read about John’s death and am more than shocked.  We went to high school together and when John started his practice on West Bay Drive, he came to me for help on a couple matters he was working on.  I remember him so well.  We stayed relatively close over the years and I always took my uncontested dissolution of marriage cases to him when he was a general master.  John was always a gentleman, kind, understanding and considerate.  I had written an email to him recently (I saw it went to Dan Herman) and had no reply.  Then I searched the internet today  and saw his obituary.   Losing John is not only a huge loss to his Family, but also to his friends and to the greater Largo-Clearwater community.  My sincere sympathy to you all.

I just found out about John's passing today. I reside in the home next door to the law firm. My deepest condolences to his wife, daughters, sister and to his associates at the law office.

He was such a kind and caring soul. He always took time to stop and chat with me and he always had a smile on his face. May God hold all of his family and friends in His wings during this time of extreme sorrow.

I met John as an adorable, hearty baby boy and saw him grow into a kind, generous, fine, fine man.  As a friend, he handled our family’s legals and later my mother's (“Miss Sadie” always).  Best memories include his versions of her ideas and his strategies to prevent some of them happening.  I treasured his wisdom as much as his easy humor.  Largo will miss him.

So sad to hear of John's passing.  I had the pleasure of serving with him on the Largo Police  & Fire Pension Board for over 10 years. We will always remember evenings on the lanai drinking either wine or whiskey while John puffed on his cigar. We would talk about nothing important and watch the sun set. Great times. John was a true gentleman in every sense of the word.  I came to know him through dealings with my father and mother, Ruth and Earl Wainscott.  My mother was suffering through a long illness, and some papers needed to be finalized.  He came to their house, had his secretary, and in doing so made it so much easier on us all.  My mother was in horrible shape and John treated her with such respect and care.  I was so impressed with his kindness.  I know he touched countless lives.  I am honored to say I knew him.

John was my Grandfather's Attorney and then my Dad's Attorney for many years.  Dad's comment, John felt more like a friend than an Attorney.  He was always there to help Dad and then me, whenever we had a question and he will be missed! I had the pleasure of meeting John through his work as a Pension Trustee for over a decade on the City of Largo's Police and Firefighters Pension Board.  

John was extremely intelligent and could quickly grasp the important points of any topic,  whether it was making million-dollar investment decisions,  digesting arcane details of an actuarial valuation report or reviewing a request for disability benefits.   John was sharp,  but just as impressive was his demeanor.   He was a consummate professional, really more of an elder statesman.   He knew how to ask questions directly,  but diplomatically,  always looking for an answer,  rather than trying to make a statement or put someone on the spot.   And he could disagree with anyone without being disagreeable;  a skill that is sorely needed these days.

A nicer, more humble individual you will never find.   He will be greatly missed and forever appreciated.

Some of my best memories were down at your house and spent all together.  Your Dad def made the best egg in the hole, if only he had taught Holly to bake a pie.  I adored your Dad and always looked up to him as a 2nd father even though he thought we were crazy.  Your family was such a huge part of my childhood and even my adulthood.  I will never forget the kindness and love of your father.  He was an amazing man and left a lasting impressions on all those that were around him.  I am so sorry and here for you.

We were so saddened to hear of John’s untimely passing.  For many years he was our trusted attorney and friend, and no one will ever replace him.  He always had time to chat after taking care of business and we enjoyed so much discussing travel plans, cars, and many other things. My husband even bought his old Porsche ‘85   911 from him!

Holly, I'm so sorry for your loss.  I remember a few years ago one of our silly clients could not figure out how to email or fax an LOA and literally asked me to make a huge change to his accounts on New Year's Eve.  He lived right down the street from your dad...you called your dad and he allowed the client to come to his office and use his scanner or fax.  I only spoke to your dad for a few minutes but I have always remembered how warm and funny he was just in those few minutes.

I cherish all of the memories I have from the 8 years of working for John!  He was great boss and friend and a wonderful person with a huge heart for others.  I would talk to our clients and they would always say,  "we just love John"....everyone did.  It breaks my heart that he is gone too soon.  My heartfelt condolences go out to Paula, Holly, Beth, his sister and all of his family members.  At times when I become sad and cry, I search my memories for the fun times at the office, the ones that make me laugh...there were so many.  I will miss him so much!
