OBITUARY Merri Cheryl Cate June 5, 1962 – January 10, 2019 Merri Matthews Cate, 56, of Signal Mountain, went home to be with the lord on Thursday, January 10, 2019. She fulfilled her mission on Earth of displaying the utmost courage, strength, grace, and faith during her four-year battle with breast cancer. All the while, fulfilling her duties as a daughter, wife, mother, and friend. Merri was born in Macon, Georgia and lived there until her family moved to Chattanooga in 1970. She attended Alpine Crest Elementary school, graduated from Red Bank High School, and earned a degree from the University of Tennessee, Chattanooga. She has been employed by the Hamilton County Court as a Deputy Clerk for the last 10 Years. She was preceded in death by her father, Roy Lee Matthews. Surviving is her high school sweetheart and husband of 31 years, Forrest Cate; children, Forrest (Jenna), Matthew, and Anna; and mother, Elsie Matthews. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 PM on Saturday, January 12th at Red Bank Baptist Church (4000 Dayton Blvd, Chattanooga, TN, 37415). A celebration of life service will be at 2 PM on Sunday, January 13th at Red Bank Baptist Church with Dr. Sam Greer officiating. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Mary Ellen Locher Scholarship Foundation (P.O. Box 4032, Chattanooga, TN, 37405).
