OBITUARY Margaret “Marney” Elaine Rockwell February 19, 1922 – December 23, 2018 Margaret “Marney” Elaine Moeck (Candlish) Rockwell Obituary Margaret “Marney” Elaine Moeck (Candlish) Rockwell died peacefully on December 23, 2018 at The Isaac House, Rocklin, California. She was born February 19, 1922 in San Jose, California and grew up in the family home on Hedding Street in Santa Clara. She attended Hester Elementary School and San Jose High School, graduating with honors. In June 1943 she married Lt. Robert Wheeler Candlish. Except for the few years during WW II, when she and Bob lived at military bases in the eastern states, they made their home in the Santa Clara Valley where they were very active in the community and raised their three sons. In 1947 Margaret graduated from San Jose State College, earning a BA and teaching certificate as a Speech and Drama major. During most of her adult life she continued to follow her passion for acting, performing with various community theater groups and as a narrator of audio books. After the death of Bob in 1977, Marney became reacquainted with and eventually married an old high school boyfriend, Jerry Rockwell, in 1978. Following Jerry’s death in 1986 she continued to live alone in the Santa Clara Valley’s east foothills tending her large backyard garden “playground.” Margaret was a devoted wife and mother, an active member of San Jose First United Methodist Church, an energetic supporter of her sons’ many youth and school programs including scouting, church groups, music, drama and sports, and an avid and knowledgeable gardener. Professionally, she taught for a short time in the Berryessa School District and then worked in the Santa Clara County Library System, retiring in 1987 as a Library Assistant in the San Jose main branch. In January 2015, due to failing health, Marney reluctantly moved to Sierra Pointe Senior Living, Roseville, California and then to Rocklin, California in August 2018. Margaret is survived by her sons and their wives, Thomas Carlton and Deborah Kay Candlish of Rocklin, Bruce Edward and Linda Arline Candlish of Bloomsburg, PA, and Alan Robert and Judy Louise Candlish of Rancho Murieta, nine grandchildren and ten great grandchildren. A funeral service will take place on Saturday, January 5 at 11:00 AM in Lambert Funeral Home on Douglas Blvd., Roseville, California. Interment will be near the graves of her parents and grandparents in Oak Hill Memorial Park, San Jose at 12:00 noon on Sunday, January 6. The family requests that memorials to Margaret be sent to American Cancer Society, San Jose First United Methodist Church, or American Red Cross for the victims of the “Camp Fire” in Butte County, California.
