Joe’s Obituary Joe E. Dean, 76, of Brighton, CO, passed away on January 1, 2019. He was born on January 21, 1942 in Ribera, New Mexico to Samuel and Luisa (Tapia) Dean. Joe moved to Colorado with his family at an early age, attending schools in both Denver and Commerce City, CO. Joe married Mary (Lorraine) Romero on August 8, 1964 at Saint Cajetan’s Catholic Church in Denver, CO. Joe was one of the hardest working men around. Early in his career, he worked construction, pouring foundation for large arenas in the Denver area. At 21, he was offered a promotion of Foreman, but instead decided to pursue his life-long dream of farming. Even at the early age of 12 years old, he and his older brother Frank would grow green beans and sell them at market for 2 ½ cents a pound to make a little extra money. He worked tirelessly to pursue his farming aspirations. He started out by selling a few bushels of produce, then over time, raising enough livestock for auction to put a down payment on a small farmhouse right outside of Brighton, CO. Over the next 35 years, he served the Brighton community and surrounding metro area with fresh and roasted green chili and a variety of other fruits and vegetables. At his peak, Joe was one of the most sought-after chili farmers in Northern Colorado, with distributions to New Mexico, California and other surrounding states. He was a devoted husband, father, and grandpa. His work ethic and morals were always an example to his kids. People that knew Joe would describe him as honest, and a man who appreciated his family and the simple things in life. He was sometimes a quiet man, who didn’t need to say much, but had a peaceful presence. He was admired and loved by many. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, watching country western movies and country music. Joe is survived by his beloved wife of 54 years, Mary, of Brighton, CO; brothers, Juan (Marie) Dean of Westminster, CO, and Ralph (Alice) Dean of Cozad, NE; sisters, Mary Wedgle of Colorado Springs, CO, Gloria Montoya of Commerce City, CO, and Dorothy Williams of Henderson, CO; children, Robert Dean of Thornton, CO, Joseph Dean of Evans, CO, Pete Dean of Casper, WY, and Lorraine (Mario) Mrva of Arvada, CO; and many grandchildren. Joe was proceeded in death by both is parents, and brothers; Frank and Sam Dean. A Rosary will be held for Joe at St. Augustine’s Catholic Church in Brighton, Colorado at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, January 10, 2019, with the Funeral Mass to follow at 11:00 a.m., Interment following the service at Elmwood Cemetery in Brighton, Colorado.
