Eric Peter Waynick was born December 31, 1966 in Greensboro, North Carolina to Erica V. Waynick and the late William “Bucky” Davis. Our dear Eric went home to be with the Lord on Friday, January 25, 2019. He was just 52 years old. He was predeceased, and now surrounded, by three angels, his beloved grandmother, Marjorie Cassels Waynick, and his dear uncle, Jacob “Da Unck” Waynick and his Aunt Leisa. Eric graduated from Northwest High School in Oak Ridge, North Carolina in 1984. Immediately after graduation, he enlisted in the US Marine Corps. He completed his basic training and was stationed at Camp Lejeune in Jacksonville, North Carolina. Eric was a computer science genius! He used this prowess throughout his career at many companies, including Associated Press (AP), CNN, the Salvation Army, Hakim Technical Trade & Marketing, and most recently at the innovative, up-start company, Ring.com. His knowledge of information technology was a God given talent which he fully exploited. Perhaps Eric’s greatest achievement was overcoming the adversity of substance abuse. With the unconditional love of his staunchest supporter, his mother Erica, and through his faith in the Lord, he persevered and lived (and, sadly, died) as a testimony to many others. Since 2017, he has been an active member of Cathedral of Love Community Church. Eric was a House Father at Fresh Start (run by the Veteran’s Administration). This program supports veteran men in their fight against substance abuse and other related problems. It is programs like Fresh Start which allowed Eric to be a beacon for so many others. One colleague remarked during Eric’s last days: “He had a heart of gold.” This characteristic, along with his sense of family and his beautiful smile, will be the enduring memory of our dear Eric. “Saleem,” as his friends and family affectionately called him, was always the life of the party. He leaves to cherish his memory, his fiercest advocate, Mother Erica; son Cameron Jacob Dixon (Canada), brother, John E. Waynick (a/k/a Tariq); three uncles, Daniel H. Waynick, Stephen K. Waynick (nee Margaret) and Joseph Alonzo Waynick; three aunts, Susan R. Waynick, Valerie P. Waynick and Joann S. Waynick. He also leaves a host of cousins, nieces, nephews and many, many friends and colleagues. As he often said “I pray Jesus guides my steps” We pray, today, that Jesus continues to guide his steps to heaven.
