He was a peninsula resident for about ten years and was a member of Deer Park Baptist Church. Eric retired from the United States Marine Corp. after thirty years as a Master Gunnery Sergeant. He was a teacher and a drum major for the Marine Corp. Drum and Bugle Corp. Survivors include his wife, of 34 years, Peggy T. Bay; two children, Linda Budahn (Mike) and Lora McCain; one sister, Kristine Layman; and two grandchildren, Matthew and Alex Budahn. He was preceded in death by five brothers and one sister. A funeral service will be held at Deer Park Baptist Church on Saturday, February 2, 2019 at 12 noon with Pastor Randy Fields officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to service starting at 11 AM. Burial will be later in the Georgia National Cemetery in Canton , Georgia. The family requests in lieu of flowers donations be made to Deer Park Baptist Church, 826 J. Clyde Morris Blvd., Newport News, VA 23601. Arrangements by W. J. Smith & Son Funeral Home.
