His profession was Cost Accounting and he was employed by Vitro, Honeywell and NASA (Goddard Space Flight Center and Headquarters) where he retired in 1988. Ned combined his love for the ocean and his country by serving in the US Coast Guard from 1953-1957. He was active in the community coaching and umpiring for Atholton Youth Recreation Association Baseball and was on the founding board of Hammond Park Recreation Association. He was also active in his churches. Ned loved fishing whether it was in a pond as a young boy, along the surf or in his boat, Jillo, with family and friends. He enjoyed grilling out for his family especially in the back yard of the cabin along the banks of the Rehoboth-Lewes Canal, happy hours, and playing poker. Ned loved his family dearly and is survived by his children, Dr Mark R. Speake and Liz of Lewisburg, PA and Jill E. Horn and David of Westminster, MD; siblings Tim and Dianne Speake and Linda and Jerry Waggoner; Grandchildren: Sarah and Bryce Livingston, Gregory and Emily Speake, Bryan Speake, Katherine Horn, and Emily Horn. He is also survived by nieces and nephews Christy (Alex) Schafer, Chick (Carol) Haering, Rosalie Sorrell, Andrew (Trish) Speake, Stephen (Lea) Speake, Lynne (Chip) Lavender, Elizabeth (Jeffrey Torgerson) Speake, Kelly (Rich) Barrett, Ryan (Melissa) Waggoner. Ned is survived by the many friends he has made through his lifetime especially Tyra, Ron & Gerri, Nick, Betty, Mitzee, Joan, Barb, Jerry, Jimmy, Danny and Debbie, parishioners from Westminster Presbyterian Church, his Panera Coffee Crew, and oldies but goodies from in and around Rehoboth. If you knew Ned, he was your friend. Ned was predeceased by his wife, his parents, his in-laws Robert and Elizabeth (Stroh) Glindemann, and Sister, Margaret Jane (Speake) Haering and her husband Franklin C.
