Duke Kimbrough January 23, 1941 – January 20, 2019 Share this obituary Send Flowers Sign Guestbook| Send Sympathy Card Duke Kimbrough Duke Kimbrough passed away on Sunday, January 20, 2019, after a brief illness. He was born January 23, 1941, to Sarah Eggleston and Percy Kimbrough of Morgan City, Mississippi. He attended Morgan City Schools and graduated from Greenwood High School. He graduated from Mississippi State University with degrees in Agriculture and History and was a member of Sigma Chi fraternity. He supported Mississippi State and loved attending their basketball and football games. After college, he served in the U.S. Army in Korea and stateside, retiring with the rank of Major. He moved back to Morgan City to farm with his father. He was a lifelong member of Morgan City Baptist Church serving as deacon and parliamentarian. He also enjoyed being in the Itta Bena-Morgan City Rotary Club, where he would do an impromptu program whenever needed! He was named a Paul Harris Fellow, served as president twice and was a member for 30 years. He was on the Board of Commissioners for the Yazoo Mississippi Delta Water management district, a service that he wholeheartedly enjoyed. He was also a North Central Mississippi Regional Railroad Authority board member. Duke loved history, especially British history, but remembered all our family history also. He remembered everything he read and was delighted to share his knowledge, holding forth to any willing audience. He is survived by his three sisters, Sarah Crockett (John) of Germantown, Tennessee; Hallie Yanno (Bob) of Coral Gables, Florida; and Midge Kimbrough of Jackson, Mississippi; and nieces, Sally Cleek (Corey) and Mary Beth Turner (Tim) and their families. He is also survived by many beloved cousins. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Morgan City Baptist Church or the charity of your choice. His service will be held 2:00 PM Thursday, January 24, 2019, at Wilson and Knight Funeral Home with visitation beginning at 1:00 PM. Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery in North Carrollton, Mississippi. Wilson and Knight Funeral Home is in charge.
