Cortney graduated from Irving High School 1997. She was voted most likely to become a police officer. Cortney played basketball throughout her high school years, competed in MMA and loved to play the guitar. After, high school she moved to Alpharetta, Georgia where she worked at Cozymel’s and Pappadeaux. Cortney came back to TX in 2004 when her father Glenn Tepera passed away from Huntington’s. She drove all night just to make it in time where Glenn Tepera passed at Parkland Hospital in Dallas. Cortney became a 911 operator at Haltom City in 2004. Cortney believed that her calling from God was to become a police officer. Cortney put herself through Tarrant County Police Academy and graduated 2005. She was hired by the Allen Police Department 2005. Cortney was overjoyed getting to serve the community. Cortney then moved on to get hired and work for McKinney Police Department 2007. She loved working for McKinney. Cortney and Maggie met in McKinney and the rest was history. They were married August 28, 2015. Cortney was medically retired in August 2015 due to being diagnosed with Huntington’s. Cortney didn’t let having the disease stop her from living life to the fullest. Cortney’s doctors at UTSW all told her she had one of the best attitudes and will power to battle this terrible disease. Cortney had a million dollar smile which could light up the room. Cortney’s faith was very important to her. She truly believed God could work miracles. Cortney had a courageous battle with Huntington’s. She would do physical therapy weekly and would do puzzles to try and slow the disease down. This past year 2018 Cortney’s body started to give up. She became very weak and everyday activities became more like chores. December 14, 2018 Cortney and Maggie decided that she was going to start hospice. Renea from Faith Presbyterian came over to the house to do a full assessment of Cortney. Renea told Cortney and Maggie she would greatly benefit from going to T Boone Pickens Hospice in Dallas , TX. It was a true blessing from God for Cortney to even get a room at T Boone Pickens Hospice. They normally have a long waiting list to receive a room. Everyone from the front desk ,to the techs, nurses, and doctors were all so wonderful and loving. They took such good care of Cortney. They were able to keep her comfortable during the transition. Cortney’s courageous battle with Huntington’s ended the morning of January 1, 2019. Cortney and Maggie were able to ring in one last New Year. Cortney had a million dollar smile and was the life of the party. Cortney truly believed she had a limited amount time on this earth and was going to make the most of it. Cortney was witty, smart, and the kindest person. Cortney never met a stranger. She had many different friends from all walks of her life. She loved being outside, hiking, music, and mountain bike riding all over Texas. Cortney was the best wife, daughter, aunt, and friend. A memorial service will be held January 12, 2019 at 10:30 A.M. at Custer Road United Methodist Church, 6601 Custer Road, Plano, Texas. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made as a remembrance of Cortney at The Huntington’s Foundation.
