Obituary for Wayne Darwin Jersey Wayne Darwin Jersey, age 87, Asheville, passed away peacefully on Thursday, November 29, 2018, at his great niece’s residence in Sherrills Ford, NC. He was a native of Howell, Michigan and a son of the late Darwin Jersey and Helen Loreza May Garrison. Wayne moved to Asheville in 1963. He was a United States Army Veteran. Wayne retired from Asheville Citizens Times in 2009 where he was employed as a printer for forty-seven years. He was a member of Church of God Woodfin where he taught Sunday School for several years. Wayne was a black belt in Judo as well as a Judo Instructor. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of sixty-five years, Mary Lee Lewis Jersey on April 23, 2016. He leaves behind to cherish his memory, several nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. The family will receive friends from 12:00 P.M. until the hour of service on Sunday, December 2, 2018 in the Unicoi Funeral Home Chapel. Reverend Stan Asher and Reverend Danny Gouge will officiate at the 2:00 P.M. funeral service. Music will be provided by Queenie Wheeler and Al Duggar, pianist. Pallbearers will be Jerry Hollifield, Don Walsh, Austin Walsh, Alex Walsh, Tom Muse and Josh Hollifield. Interment will follow in the Lewis Family Cemetery, Limestone Cove Community.
