OBITUARY Roland Douglas Laliberte July 9, 1947 – December 29, 2018 Roland Douglas Laliberte passed away on December 29, 2018, doing what he did best, waging a valiant fight, this time against cancer. He was born July, 9 1947 in Central Falls, Rhode Island, to Laura Kowalska and Roland Donat Laliberte. He proudly served his country in the Army from December, 1966 through his retirement in 2007. He served with the First Air Cavalry in Vietnam, in the Rhode Island National Guard, and finally as a member of the Army Reserves until he retired at age sixty. He attained the rank of Sergeant Major, and was awarded several medals during his military career, including the Purple Heart, Bronze Star and Army Commendation Medal. Upon retirement he taught at Boston Public Schools a number of years until his move to Florida. He was president of the San Juan Del Rio St. Vincent de Paul Counsel. A Fourth Degree member of the Lincoln (R.I) Council 4005 Knights of Columbus, and a co-founder of the Penitent Brothers. He leaves behind his wife of fifty years, Pauline Nievera Laliberte; two daughters, Kristen Laliberte Casey and Robin Michelle Zuckerman (Joshua); four granddaughters, Skyler Kendall Zuckerman, Gwendolyn Rose Casey, Jillian Elyse Casey, and Peyton Miley Zuckerman; his brothers, Dennis M. Laliberte (Sandra M.) of New Port Richey, Florida, and Stephen P. Laliberte; a “brother-in-heart” Jozef Krol (Bogumila) of Smithfield, Rhode Island, several beloved nephews and nieces, aunts, uncles, and cousins. Visitation will be held from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm on Wednesday, January 2nd in Hardage-Giddens Funeral Home of Mandarin. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 am on Thursday, January 3rd in San Juan Del Rio Catholic Church 1718 State Road 13, North St. Johns, FL 32259. Interment will be at Jacksonville National Cemetery at a date to be announced later. It is the family’s wish that in lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in his name to the St. Vincent de Paul Society or to the Wounded Warrior Project, P.O.
