Shanta Tallapragada, M.D. passed away Saturday, December 29, 2018 in Sarasota, Florida. She was born on September 01, 1941 in Visakhapatnam, India to Satyanarayana Rao Timmaraju and Kameshwari Timmaraju. Dr. Tallapragada was 77 years old.
Dr. Tallapragada spent most of her professional career as a pediatrician in Long Island, New York, after studying medicine at Johns Hopkins and Buffalo. Raised primarily in Bombay, India, she attended St. Anne’s School before attending Andhra Medical College. Following retirement in Florida, she was an enthusiastic member of the Manatee River Garden Club, and also enjoyed knitting, reading and spending time with her family and grandchildren. She was a devoted wife to her husband, the late Dr. Ramakrishna Tallapragada, and the two were among the first cohort of Indians to immigrate to and obtain citizenship in the United States of America.
She is survived by her loving children, Sudha and Sridhar, her grandchildren, Ravi, Rena and Ved, and her brother and sister, Sivaram and Malati.
A visitation and prayer service will begin at 1 p.m. Sunday, January 6, 2019 at Robert Toale & Sons Funeral Home at Manasota Memorial Park (1221 53rd Ave. E., Bradenton, FL 34203). In observance of
Hindu memorial etiquette, visitors are asked to avoid or minimize overt displays of black clothing.
