PLATTSBURGH – Joseph L. Marcil, 84, Fort Brown Drive, formerly of Rt. 22 Beekmantown, passed away Saturday December 22nd at his home, surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Green Island, NY, on December 5, 1934 the son of Mitchell and Irene (MacGrath) Marcil. Joseph was raised in Green Island, attended St. Joseph’s Elementary School and LaSalle Academy.

Joseph was an Air Force veteran, serving 21 years, after retiring from the military, Joseph worked 20 plus years at Plattsburgh Motor Service in the machine shop.

He married the former Fannie Williamson on April 23, 1953 at St. Joseph’s Church in Cohoes, NY.

Joseph was very active in his community, serving as Town Justice in Beekmantown, he was a Boy Scout Leader, Board Member for Beekmantown Senior Housing, Beekmantown Tax Grievance Board. He was also a member and was very active at St. Joseph’s Church in West Chazy, serving on the Council, as an Usher, Eucharistic Minister, Men’s Club and a Trustee. With all his work at the church, Joseph received the St. Joseph’s Worker Award.

Joseph enjoyed hiking, fishing and watching Football on TV. His greatest passion was spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.

Survivors include: his wife of nearly 66 years Fannie Marcil of Plattsburgh; 3 sons, Joseph Marcil and his husband, John Ramirez, of North Hero, VT; Timothy Marcil of Altona, Thomas and Michelle Marcil of Saranac; 4 daughters, Pamela and Kevin Matson of Coventry, R.I.; Jennifer and Joseph Mihalkovic of Plattsburgh; Diana Marcil and husband Pelayo Montoto of Columbus OH; Cynthia Marcil and companion Eric Blair of West Chazy; his brothers, Patrick and Jean Marcil of Albany, Allan and Danielle Marcil of Ocala, FL; his sisters, Irene Grosshiem of West End NC; Janet Robideau of Waterford N; Dawn and Allan Perlin of Clifton Park, NY; grandchildren, Jaclyne Purtell, Jorja Zielinski, James and William Marcil, Andrew, Emily, Erik and Victoria Matson, Benjamin, Jacob and Abrianna Mihalkovic, Dante, Benito and Marco Montoto; 6 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

Joseph was predeceased by his parents and a son Patrick Marcil.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Thursday December 27, 2018 at 11:00 am at St. Joseph’s Church in West Chazy. Burial will be in the parish cemetery in the spring.

Donations in memory of Joseph may be made to Hospice of the North Country, North Country Honor Flight, or Fitzpatrick Cancer Center in Plattsburgh.
