Monica’s Obituary Monica I. Hoefler, 94, of Albion, NE, passed away Sunday, December 30, 2018, at Good Samaritan Society in Albion, NE. A Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, January 2, 2019 at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Albion, NE with Fr. Mark Tomasiewicz officiating. Interment will be at St. Michael’s Catholic Cemetery in Albion, NE. Visitation will be 3 – 5 p.m. Tuesday at Levander Funeral Home in Albion, NE, with a 5 p.m. wake service. Monica Irene Hoefler, daughter of Charles J. and Margaret (Koenig) Salber was born July 28, 1924 at Petersburg, NE. She was baptized and confirmed at St. John’s Catholic Church in Petersburg, NE. and attended St. John’s Catholic School until the 9th grade. On August 28, 1945 Monica was united in marriage to Leo Henry Hoefler at St. John’s Catholic Church in Petersburg. They moved to the Chicago area for awhile before returning to Albion to farm in 1950. In 1985 the couple retired and moved to town. On September 9, 2011 Monica entered the Good Samaritan Center in Albion, NE. Monica was a member of the St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Albion along with the Altar Society, where she served as treasurer for 2 years. She was a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary where she served as President for 2 years, and a member of the Happy Homemakers Club. Monica enjoyed playing scrabble, knitting, quilting, and gardening. Monica is survived by her 11 children: Raymond (Renate) of Morrison, CO; Margaret of Lincoln, NE; Janice (Daniel) Harrington of Columbus, NE; Leona (Leo) VanDeWalle of Cedar Rapids, NE; Vincent (Kay) of Lincoln, NE; Deborah Sattizahn of Sioux City, IA; Dianne Horsley (Steven) of Elk Point, SD; Ben (Linda) of Lincoln, NE; Susan (Terry) Taylor of Grand Island, NE; Eileen (Keith) Hansen of Sioux City, IA; and Ronald of Lincoln, NE; 35 grandchildren; 49 great-grandchildren; two sisters: Rita Schrage of Petersburg, NE; and Irene Schmits of Spalding, NE; along with numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Leo; son-in-law Michael Sattizahn; two brothers: John and Lawrence Salber; three sisters: infant Eileen, Rosemary Mitchell, and Alice Brugman.
