Obituary for Helen Elizabeth Searles Helen Elizabeth (Stucky) Searles, 98, of Pine Island, died peacefully in her sleep at her home, surrounded by family, on Wednesday, December 5, 2018. The memorial service will be on Monday, December 10, 2018, at 11:00 a.m. at Saint Paul’s Lutheran Church in Pine Island, with Rev. Gary Wees officiating. Visitation will be at 10:00 a.m. preceding the service. Burial will be at Fort Snelling National Cemetery. Helen Elizabeth Searles was born on February 2, 1920, in Superior, Wis. to Selma and Walter Stucky. She was married to Richard Frank Searles, her high school sweetheart, on May 8, 1940. They made their home in Pine Island and raised their two children, Paula and Brian. Over the years, Helen enjoyed sewing, baking, and volunteering. Helen was active with Girl Scouts as well, taking her daughter’s troop from start to finish-15 years in total. Helen and her husband were active volunteers at St. Paul’s Lutheran church, the Legion Club, and the Pine Haven Nursing Home. They were avid bowlers and bowled in many leagues. They also traveled each year to the Sea Bee’s reunions. They were able to attend every single reunion for 35 years. Helen is survived by her daughter, Paula (Robert) Hofer of Elk River; son, Brian (Jane) Searles of Hanover Park, Ill; granddaughters, Tracy (Pete) Nielson of St. Paul and Angela (Matt) Huber of Fridley and her great-granddaughter; Celia Huber of Fridley. Helen was preceded in death by her husband, Dick.
