Obituary for Evangeline A. Wilcox Evangeline A. “Vangy” Wilcox, age 93, was called home to our Lord on Wednesday, December 5, 2018. Born June 28, 1925, to Archer and Anna (Mitchell) DeVaudreuil, was a funny, caring, humble, and talented individual who touched the lives of all who knew her. A giving person, she enjoyed bringing others joy. Vangy married Boyd A. Wilcox September 19, 1943 and together they shared 54 years of marriage, while raising their daughter, Faye Ann, until he passed in 1997. Vangy, Boyd and Faye Ann enjoyed raising their beagles (even had champions), growing Christmas trees on the Wilcox Christmas Tree Farm in Norwich, owning and running a local bakery, bowling alley and vegetable farm, while traveling around the world. Evangeline was an RN at the Chenango Memorial Hospital in Norwich, NY, where she was a long-time resident until her retirement. After several years of retirement, she decided to go back to college, as she always wanted her Bachelors Degree. Vangy graduated from St. Joseph’s College with her Bachelors Degree on May 12, 2001, at 75 years young. She became involved with the Boy Scouts in 2006; being Committee Chairman of Pack 5069 of Johnstown, NY for 6 years, Committee Chairman of Troop 5104 for 4 years and accomplished the Order of the Arrow (a National Honor Society of Boy Scouts of America, graduating at 80 years old). She was an avid golfer, fisherman, and artist, creating beautiful artwork through water colors, oils, chalk and the art of Bunka (Japanese artwork), which she became a certified teacher of. Vangy is survived by her daughter, Faye Ann Lawrence (Douglas) of Johnstown. She also is survived by three grandchildren, Bruce Lawrence of Johnstown, Tammy (Michael) Stoutner of Broadalbin and Robyn (David) Huckans of Broadalbin, along with 11 Great Grandchildren and 11 Great, Great Grandchildren. She was predeceased by her parents, loving husband of 54 years, sisters, Joyce Truax and Genevieve Grewe, brother, Archie DeVaudreuil and half-brother, David Lowe. The family will receive friends on Sunday, December 9, 2018 from 12:00 – 2:00 pm at the A.G. Cole Funeral Home, Inc., 215 E. Main Street, Johnstown, with funeral service celebrating her life being held at 2:00 pm. Contributions in her memory may be made to the Community Health Center, 2-8 W.
