Edgard’s Obituary Dr. Edgard Turnier, MD, 83, of Cumberland and formerly of Newport, passed away Thursday, December 27, 2018. He was the beloved husband of Carol (Sherry) Turnier. Born in Haiti, he was the son of the late Benjamin and Angelique (Jabarth) Turnier. Dr. Turnier was a political exile from Haiti. He was the first foreign graduate accepted at Rhode Island Hospital internship program, where he became the Chief Surgical Resident. He later accepted a position at Stanford University for two years conducting cardio-vascular research. Dr. Turnier then served his residency at USC for two years, performing open heart surgery. He practiced in both southern and northern California, the Midwest and Newport, Rhode Island. Besides his wife of 47 years, he is survived by his children, Stephanie Mitchell, Christopher Turnier, Meghan Patterson, and Bradford Turnier, his five grandchildren, Luca Mori, Christopher Mori, Sophia Patterson, Morgan Patterson, and Caroline Patterson. He also leaves two sisters, Monique Verly and Giselle Harris. He was the brother of the late Raymond Turnier, Irene Turnier, Gine Turnier, Clara Ledan, Victor Turnier, and Nicole Turnier. The funeral will be held Monday at 9AM from the O’Neill Funeral Home, 3102 Mendon Road, Cumberland, followed by a concelebrated Mass of Christian Burial at 10AM in Saint Joan of Arc Church, 3357 Mendon Road, Cumberland. Burial will follow in Resurrection Cemetery, Cumberland. Relatives and friends are invited. Visiting hours Sunday from 2-4PM in the O’Neill Funeral Home.
