Eilers September 02, 1929 – December 29, 2018 Share this obituary Send Flowers Sign Guestbook| View Guest Book Entries| Send Private Condolences| Send Sympathy Card Donald Eilers, age 89 of St. Charles, MO formerly of New Douglas, IL passed away on Saturday, December 29, 2018 at the Mt. Carmel Senior Living Center in St. Charles, MO. He was born on Monday, September 2, 1929 in Litchfield, IL. He was the son of Henry A. and Iva I. (Best) Eilers. He was married to Gloria Riva on July 31, 1954 at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in New Douglas, IL. Don served our country in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict from February of 1951 to February of 1953. After his military service he worked as a Die Setter for Olin Brass in Alton, IL. He then worked for the United States Postal Service and became the Postmaster in New Douglas from 1956 to 1984 with 28 years of service. Don was a 50 year member of the Masonic Lodge #560 AF&AM in New Douglas, IL. He was also a member of the Ainad Shriners and the Scottish Rite of East St. Louis, IL. Don was a member and past commander of the Tobias Bilyeu American Legion Post 710 in New Douglas, IL and a Life Member of the VFW Post 1241 in Staunton, IL. He was a past member of the New Douglas Fire Department and was a member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church in New Douglas, IL. Don is survived by his wife: Gloria Eilers of St. Charles, MO. 4 Sons: Dennis Eilers, his wife Susan of Tijeras, NM; Robert “Bob” Eilers of St. Louis, MO; John Eilers, his wife Peggy of Staunton, IL; Thomas “Tom” Eilers, his wife Kathleen of St. Charles, MO; 10 Grandchildren: Julie Walter, her husband Kendrick; Kathy Eilers; Donald E. Eilers; Beth McNaughton, her husband Bradley; Christopher Eilers; Emily Eilers, her husband Neal Kloppenborg; Kyle Eilers; Lyndsey Gibbons, her husband Kurt; Andrea Ragsdale, her husband William; and Adreona Copeland, her husband Nick. 9 Great Grandchildren: Cory, Bryce, Evan, Wiatt, Ava, Carlyonna, Marlon, Holly, and Alyla. Numerous Nieces and Nephews. He was preceded in death by his Parents: 2 Brothers: Arden Eilers and Bernard “Sonny” Eilers. 1 Sister: Lois Leach. A Visitation for Donald Eilers will be held on Friday, January 4, 2019 from 9:00 AM to 11:45 AM, and will begin with Masonic Rites at 9:00 AM at the Immanuel Lutheran Church located at 205 N 7th Street in New Douglas, IL 62074. Funeral Services will be held on Friday, January 4, 2019 at 12:00 PM at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in New Douglas, IL with Rev. Zachary Lysdahl officiating. Burial will be in the New Douglas Cemetery with full military honors provided by the Staunton Veterans Honor Guard. Memorial Contributions in memory of Donald Eilers can be made to the Ainad Shriners or to the Immanuel Lutheran Church.
