Carl E Burton 1919 2018

Obituary of Carl Burton I Ilion Carl E. Burton, 99, passed away peacefully in his sleep on December 7, 2018, at The Grand Rehabilitation and Nursing Home in Ilion. Carl was born on August 22, 1919 in Schuyler; he was the son of the late Ernest and Marion Burr Burton. He was a 1938 graduate of Ilion Schools and played in the high school band and orchestra. Carl joined the US Navy serving during WWll as a Chief Petty Officer in Saipan and the Mariana Islands. On August 5, 1947 he married the former Leona Mehringer in Ilion. They were married for 66 years until Leona passed away on October 22, 2013. Carl worked as a foreman in the Remington Arms craft shop retiring in 1979. Carl was a member of the Ilion United Methodist Church, the Remington Arms 25 year club, the Ilion Fish and Game Club and the AARP. He was also a Life Member of VFW Post 502 and a member of The Musicians Union of Utica. Carl was an avid musician who loved to play, having been in several bands prior to WWll. Carl is survived by his adopted daughter and caregiver Jayne Sadlon Guchone of Cooperstown. Funeral services for Carl will be Tuesday, December 11, 2018 at 11:00 AM from the Whiter-Hendrix Funeral Home Inc., 100 Otsego St. Ilion, with full military honors, Rev. Robert Wollaber will officiate. Interment will take place in Crown Hill Memorial Park, Town of New Hartford. In keeping with Carl’s wished there are no calling hours. Friends are asked to consider memorial to the American Heart Assoc. or the Mohawk Homestead; envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
