Obituary for Carl M Hawkins Carl M. Hawkins “Hawk”, 82, husband of Maria Del Pilar Hawkins, died Saturday, November 03, 2018 at Palmetto Health Tuomey. Born August 22, 1936, in Sparta, TN, he was a son of the late Floyd J. Hawkins and the late Ida Lewis Hawkins. Mr. Hawkins was a member of Midway Baptist Church. He retired from the U.S. Air Force after 20 years of service and was a veteran of the Vietnam War. Mr. Hawkins was well known as a steel guitar player. Survivors include his wife of Sumter; three daughters, Sherry Henson (Roy) of Gainsboro, TN, Katie Swygert (Gordon) of Sumter, and Jeannie Rae Hemming (Bryan) of Tom Bean, TX; three sons, Derek Hawkins (Wendy) and Carl Hawkins, Jr. both of Sumter, and Timothy Hawkins (Heather) of Manning; twelve grandchildren; fifteen great grandchildren; two great–great grandchildren; three sisters, Annabelle Fie of Sparta, TN, Rae Miller of Chatanooga, TN, and Barbara Harms of Ft. Charlotte, FL; one brother-in-law, Pedro Ramon of Spain; and one sister-in-law, Maria Jesus Ramon of Spain. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Floyd Hawkins, and Herbert Hawkins; and two sisters, Amelia Hawkins Swain, Ruth Hawkins Shoemaker. Funeral services will be held at 4 P.M. Tuesday in the Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home chapel. Burial will be in the Smith’s Chapel Cemetery in Crossville, TN. The family will receive friends from 3 to 4 P.M. Tuesday at Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home and other times at the home. Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home and Crematorium of Sumter is in charge of the arrangements.
