Obituary for Ronald “Moon” Alix MAPLEWOOD – Ronald J. “Moon” Alix, 72, died unexpectedly on Sunday, August 19, 2018 at his home in Maplewood. Born in Troy, NY he was son of the late Albert L. and Marion V. Alix and was also preceded in death by his sister, Patricia G. Alix. Ron is survived by his wife of 45 years, Rose Ann (St. Gelais) Alix from Cohoes; his two daughters, MaryAnn (Jason) Robbins and Dorothy Helinski; and two loving grandchildren, Emily Helinski and Alyssa Robbins. Ron was an employee of the former Tagsons Paper Co. (American Tissue) for over 30 years before his retirement. In his early years he served in the U. S. Army as a Private First Class with Battery A, 6th Battalion, 56th Artillery in Vietnam where he served active duty and received various accommodations and medals for his service. Ron also dedicated his whole life to the Maplewood Volunteer Fire Department and Conservation Club. During his membership he was honored with several awards. Ron was a fan of NASCAR and Lebanon Valley Speedway racing. He was an avid traveler, camper and was best friends with his black lab, Blackjack. Ron’s funeral will held on Thursday and will begin at 8:30 am at the Parker Bros. Memorial, 2013 Broadway in Watervliet and will proceed to the Maplewood Fire Company where departmental honors will be rendered at 9 am. The procession will then will proceed to the Church of the Holy Trinity in Cohoes where the funeral Mass will be celebrated at 9:30 am by the Reverend Brian K. Slezak, pastor. The Rite of Committal and interment, with Army honors, will follow the Mass at the Gerald B.H. Solomon-Saratoga National Cemetery at 12 pm. Friends are invited to attend and may also visit with Ron’s family on Wednesday from 4 until 7 pm at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that donations, in memory of Ronald J. Alix, be made to the Maplewood Volunteer Fire Department, 61 Cohoes Road, Watervliet, NY 12189.
