Richard L Immel 2018

Richard L. Immel age 88 of Jackson Twp. passed away October 25, 2018. Dick was born May 23, 1930 in Massillon to the late Lowell & Bernice (Bennett) Immel. He was a graduate of Washington High School and Kent State University. Dick was a lifelong member of St. John’s United Church of Christ in Massillon. Dick was president of the Tiger Booster Club in 1962. He served four years in the Air Force as part of the elite Strategic Air Command as staff sergeant and received an Honorable Discharge. He retired as president of McNeil & NRM in Akron. Mr. Immel will be remembered for his passion of making wooden crosses. He made 15,347 crosses that have been distributed across 70 countries to military personnel, missionaries and people he met in life. In addition to his parents, a sister Marilyn Parker preceded him in death. He is survived by his wife Shirley (Buck) Immel whom he shared 65 years of marriage. They have three children: Curt (Sally) Immel, Sue (Larry) Weston and David (Karen) Immel and grandchildren: Nicole, Colton, Jessica, Rachel, Nathan and Lucas. A Memorial Service will be 11 AM on Wednesday at the Paquelet Funeral Home in Massillon. Mr. Gary Dolan will officiate. Friends may call from 10 AM to the time of the service. His final resting place will be Rose Hill Memorial Gardens.
