Mary Lou Brewer Looper was born on February 17, 1935 in Center, Texas to Ellie Ree Thelma Sholmire Brewer and to Robert Thomas Brewer. Mary Lou was named after her maternal grandmother, Mary Lou Emma Sholmire, and always felt blessed by her name. She was born again in 1943 when she accepted Jesus as her Savior. She wants everyone to be joyous celebrating that she is in Heaven with Jesus. She was sick 25 years and was looking forward to her new body in Heaven. Also, she has been asking the Lord for years if she might be a little taller when she got to heaven.
The family moved to Lubbock, Texas where she graduated from Lubbock High School in 1953. Afterward, she went to Mary Hardin Baylor, a Baptist girl's school in Belton, Texas. She married Charles Gene Looper on June 2, 1957 at First Baptist Church in Lubbock, Texas. Mary Lou knew by the time she was ten years old that she wanted to be a teacher She taught high school English in Springdale and Mansfield and taught kindergarten in Fort Smith and Greenwood.
She leaves behind her beloved family, her husband of 61 years, Charles Gene Looper of the home; two daughters and two sons-in-law, Becky and Bob Echols of Fayetteville, Arkansas and Sheila and Brian Holstein of Mansfield, Arkansas; two granddaughters Abigail and Hannah Holstein; one brother James E. Brewer of Romayor, Texas and many beloved nieces, nephews, cousins.
Funeral service will be 10 a.m., Saturday, October 6 at Mansfield First Baptist Church with burial at Dayton Cemetery under the direction of McConnell Funeral Home of Greenwood. Viewing will be Friday from 10 a.m. until 8 p.m. at the funeral home, where the family will visit with friends from 5 to 7 p.m.
Pallbearers will be Warren Looper, Jim Wilson, Brad Lewis, Jerry Orick, Ken Boyd, Brian Holycross, Kendall Looper and Marion Mathis.
