Obituary for Homer Eugene Cook Dr. Homer Eugene Cook, 92, of Chanute, KS, died September 30, 2018. He was born in rural McDonald County and attended schools in the area. After high school, he enlisted in the Navy serving two years aboard the USS Tucson in the Pacific during World War II. He met and married his wife of 70 years, Betty, while attending college in Tonkawa, OK. He graduated from the University of Missouri Kansas City, School of Dentistry and began his dental practice in 1954. After a practicing dentistry for fifty years in Chanute, he retired in 2004. Homer was a life member retired of the ADA, KDA and the local study group. He was a member of the First Christian Church where he served as a deacon, on multiple committees and assistant Scout Master. He was a 50-year member of the Masons, Shriners and the Scottish Rite. He served two terms on USD #413 School Board. He is survived by his wife, Betty Cook of the home, daughters Elaine (Pat) McCarty, Janice (Gary) Phillips and sons Daryl Cook, Larry Cook, Paul Cook, and grandchildren Melinda, Christopher, Ellen, Jack, Elizabeth, Madeline and Aaron. He is proceeded in death by a daughter, Vivian Jeanette, a daughter-in-law, Jill Cook-Draper, his parents, a brother, and a sister. A memorial service will be held at Countryside Funeral Home,16 N Forest Ave, Saturday, October 6th at 11:00am with visitation at 10:00am.
