Harriet P. Grant Harriet Pearl Grant passed assay on October 13, 20128. Born in Burlington, VT on October 26, 1923, she was the daughter of the late H. Dean Pearl and Mary H. Pearl. Harriet graduated from Burlington High School in 1941. During WWII she served as an aerial gunnery instructor in the U.S. Navy WAVES. Later she earned her Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees at UVM. Harriet was predeceased by her husband of 56 years in April of 2004. She is survived by her three children: Dean Grant of Burlington; Sarah Grant Davis and her husband Scott of Laconia, NH; and Margaret Grant and her husband Michael Thompson of Jericho; her grandchildren: Jeffrey Grant and his wife Mariya Hodge; Tyler Davis and his wife Ashley; and Benjamin Davis and his wife Danielle; her great-granddaughter Zoe Grant; her four step-grandchildren: Ray Knowles, Wren Schmidt and her husband Malte; Bethy Wanvig and her husband Jason; Tessera Knowles-Thompson; her step great-grandson Ari Schmidt; and several nieces and nephews. Harriet was predeceased by her twin brother Houghton Pearl and her sister Gratia Pearl Paterson. An avid athlete, Harriet especially enjoyed skiing, golf, and tennis, and remained active throughout her life. She was a member of both the First Congregational Church and the PEO sisterhood for over sixty years. Over the years she also volunteered in many capacities. Harriet will always be remembered as a strong and loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, as well as a wonderful friend. Her cheerfulness and sense of humor enriched the lives of all who knew her, including her family, friends, students, and colleagues. At Harriet’s request, there will be no funeral service or calling hours. A private committal is planned in the Memorial Garden at the First Congregational Church, where Harriet will join her husband Bud.
