Carroll Hayes Felch: Surrounded by her children, Carroll Catherine Hayes Felch passed away at home in Walla Walla, WA on October 16th, 2018. She was 87. Carroll was born at St. Mary’s Hospital in Walla Walla, WA on April 24, 1931. Her parents were John Francis and Darl Allen Hayes. The family lived on a farm that had originally been owned by her grandfather, Daniel Hayes, one of the early pioneers who settled in Walla Walla in 1873. Not long after the passing of her mother in 1943, both she and her sister left Walla Walla to attend Holy Names Academy in Spokane, WA. Upon graduation, Carroll attended Seattle University. She later took employment with the Walla Walla Farmers Co-op, Inc. She married L. David Felch on August 29, 1959, who preceded her in death in 1999. Carroll will always be remembered for her thoughtfulness, selflessness and generosity, who always put others ahead of herself. She had a kind heart and a gentle nature, and had the patience of a saint. Carroll was dearly loved by the Walla Walla community. She was a member of the Catholic Daughters of America, whose aunt Katherine Anderson helped found the Walla Walla chapter. She was also a member of the Waitsburg Historical Society, and the Carnegie Art Center. She especially enjoyed gardening and growing roses, researching family genealogy, and studying antiques. She had a fascination with archeology and the antiquities. She loved the classic old movies from the 1940’s and 1950’s, and she especially loved scary movies. Her children continue to share all of these interests. Carroll is survived by her sister Patricia Bertrand of Billings, MT, her three children, Karen Dorsh of Spokane, WA, Lewis Felch of Walla Walla, WA, and Nancy Lowe of Reno, NV, cousins Robert Hayes and Marilee Hayes Thomas, both of Spokane, WA, four grandchildren and numerous other cousins, nephews and nieces. She will be missed greatly, but is now at peace. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, October 20th at 10:30 AM at the Mountain View-Colonial DeWitt Funeral Home in Walla Walla. Burial will follow the service at the Mountain View Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please consider sending a donation to the Walla Walla Community Hospice to support their wonderful programs.
