Betty Ann Maikranz, 89, of Somerville, passed away Saturday, October 20, 2018 at her home surrounded by family. She was born July 7, 1929 to the late George and Mabel (Harbison) Riley. She was a 1947 graduate of Mackey High School and worked at Swift & Co. as a typist from 1947-1951. She married the late Donald Maikranz on September 30, 1949. The couple started their family in rural Francisco in 1951. Betty loved spending time with her family and cooking for Sunday get-togethers. She also loved to volunteer at the East Gibson Food Pantry and she loved to travel the world. Betty was a member of Clarks Chapel Church. She was a Democratic poll worker for many years and an associate member of UMWA Local 5179. Betty was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She leaves behind 6 children, David H. Maikranz (Judy) of Garards Fort, PA, Tim H. Maikranz of Francisco, Joe H. Maikranz of Lake City, FL, Elaine Hart (Alan) of Evansville, John H. Maikranz (Tiffany) of Somerville and Sam H. Maikranz of Oakland City, IN; 17 grandchildren; and 25 great grandchildren. In addition to her parents and husband of 58 years, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Harold, Lloyd and Richard Riley. A Funeral Service will be held at 2 pm on Thursday, October 25, 2018 at Corn-Colvin Funeral Home in Oakland City, IN. Burial will follow in the Providence Cemetery in Francisco. Visitation will be from 11 am until service time on Thursday at the Corn-Colvin Funeral Home. A special “thank you” goes out to the Heritage Hospice for their care given to Betty. Memorial contributions may be made to the East Gibson Food Pantry. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
