Obituary of Bennie Groen Bennie G. Groen, age 92, of Renville, died Saturday, September 29, 2018, at the RenVilla Nursing Home in Renville. Visitation and funeral service will be held at the Emden Christian Reformed Church at 512 Emerson Avenue NW in Renville, MN. Visitation is from 5:00 -7:00 pm on Tuesday, October 2, and will continue one hour prior to the 10:30 am funeral service on Wednesday, October 3. Burial will be at the Emden Cemetery immediately following the service. Memorials are preferred to Central Minnesota Christian School, Children of the Promise or Emden Christian Reformed Church. Arrangements are with Dirks-Blem Funeral Service, Renville, MN. Bennie G. Groen was born November 2, 1925, to George and Gertha (Aalderks) Groen. He married Adeline Brouwer on October 2, 1947. Bennie & Adeline farmed northwest of Renville for 45 years prior to moving to Renville in November, 1992. Bennie was a lifelong member of Emden Christian Reformed Church in Renville where he served as elder and deacon. Bennie also served on the CMCS School Board, the Renville Credit Union Board, the Renville Creamery Board and the Renville Co-op Board. Bennie was an avid sports fan, both participating and watching. He enjoyed sharing stories from the past and the highlight of his day in his retirement years was working the land with his son Doug and his grandson Sam. Bennie also loved reminiscing over coffee with his friends at Bart’s Café. Bennie was a faithful and hardworking servant who loved the Lord, which was evident through his love for Adeline and his family. Bennie’s humor and one-liners are special memories to us. Bennie is survived by his wife Adeline; his children: Dave & Arlene (VanVeldhuizen) Groen of Prinsburg, Roger & Cindy (Rolffs) Groen of Prinsburg, Mary & Kevin Koppendrayer of Princeton, Carol & Carl Veurink of Milaca, Steve & Karen (VanMaanen) Groen of Edina, and Douglas & Anne (Slagter) Groen of Renville; 19 grandchildren: Tara (Jason) Monack, Cameron (Shawnda) Groen, Tracy (Mike) Borstad, Jamie (Jenny) Groen, Chad (Heather) Groen, Melissa (Mark) DeWitt, Christopher (Kristin) Groen, Ben (Anna) Groen , Josh (Megan) Groen, Angela Orcutt, Daren (Jamie) Koppendrayer, Gretchen (Nate) DeWit, Amy (Mat) Burma, Tim (Jessi) Veurink, Laura Groen, Carrie (Nicholas) Ellens, Emily (Dan) Kobes, Nicholas Groen and Samuel Groen; and 35 great-grandchildren. Also surviving is a sister Freida Ledeboer & a brother George (Betty) Groen; sisters-in-law: Char Groen, Marge Groen and Serena Marcus; brothers-in-law: Melvin (Kathy) Brouwer & Reynold Roelofs and many nephews and nieces. Bennie was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers: John, Alvin, Gerald & Donald Groen; four sisters-in-law: Gladys Groen, Hilda Groen, Rose Brouwer and Albertha Roelofs; three brothers-in-law: Delroy Ledeboer, Herman Marcus and Harland Brouwer; and a daughter-in-law Judy Groen.
