Obituary for Barbara Ann Mathias Barbara Ann Mathias, 86, of North Manchester, Ind. and formerly of Akron and Peru passed at 5:30 am, Friday, Sept. 28, 2018 at Peabody Retirement Community of North Manchester, Ind. She was born on July 14, 1932 in Fall River, Massachusetts to Richard John and Harriet (Patterson) Sowden. She had been the Unit Secretary for Dukes Hospital of Peru, Ind. for over 25 years. She attended St. Anne’s Nursing School of Rhode Island and the Bogle Street Christian Church of Fall River, Mass. She was an avid reader of history and Tom Clancy. Survivors and place of residence: Daughters – Wendy and husband Thomas Mitchell – Peru, Ind. Susan Mathias – Silver Lake, Ind. Grandchildren – Denise Manus, Allison Ashby, Amanda Keith, Ashley Sanson, and Mathew Keith Great Grandchildren – Brendon, Dalton, Savannah, Gabriella, Elise, Braydon, Audrey, Isaac, Mya, and Amelia Sister – Elsie Kirkham – New Hampshire Preceded in Death By: Parents – Richard John and Harriet (Patterson) Sowden Son – Steven Mathias Sister – Ruth Henshaw Brother – Robert Sowden Services were held Monday, Oct. 1, 2018 at Hartzler Funeral Home 305 West Rochester Street Akron, Indiana with interment in the Akron Cemetery, Akron, Indiana.
