OBITUARY William Richard Bateman November 28, 1931 – September 16, 2018 Play Tribute Movie William Bateman (Richard to his family) of Bedford, Texas passed away on September 16, 2018, in Durant, Oklahoma. He will always be remembered as a caring husband, father and friend to all who knew him. He was born on November 28th, 1931, in Waco, TX to Agnes (Biles) Bateman and William Chesser Bateman. He loved his family, Labrador retrievers, fishing, football, books, movies and country music. Richard attended Texas Christian University on a football scholarship until he enlisted in the Air Force in 1951. He spent three years in Germany during his time in the Air Force and received an honorable discharge in 1954 as a staff sergeant. He married Beverly Jane Harrell in 1962. He retired in 1997 after working as a bonder at Bell Helicopter for 35 years. He is survived by his children, William Bateman and his wife Tracey; daughter Melodie Barrett and her husband Patrick; granddaughters Elizabeth Bateman and Samantha Mansfield; grandsons Evan Barrett and Sean Mansfield; great grandson Cole Mansfield; great granddaughter Lorilai Mansfield; brother-in-law Rickey Wiseman; nieces Barbara Truax, Linda Hobbs, Cathy Nicosia, Kay Groce; and nephew Tinker Green. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Beverly Jane (Harrell) Bateman, sisters Harriet (Sis) Stone, Edna Boatman, Gladys Snell, Carrie (Dickie) King, Martha Bateman, brother William Moore, niece Laurel Jo King and nephew Buster King. The Funeral Service will be held at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday, September 22nd at Bluebonnet Hills Funeral Home Chapel in Colleyville, TX. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals at ASPCA or the Humane Society of the United States.
