Obituary for Susan “Gayle” Gabriel (Mitchell) On September 20, 2018, Susan Gayle (Mitchell Tennent) Gabriel of Concord, NC, passed away at the age of 61. Gayle was born in Durham, NC, to Joyce Mitchell (Herndon) and the late William H. Mitchell. She received her Bachelor’s degree in Education from Appalachian State University and a Master’s degree from UNC-Charlotte. Gayle had a passion for teaching gifted children in elementary education for more than 20 years in the Charlotte Mecklenburg Schools and the Rowan Salisbury School System. She was known for her warm smile, and her kind and compassionate spirit. Gayle also enjoyed singing in the Dove Worship choir at her church. Gayle is remembered by her husband Bryan Gabriel; mother Joyce Mitchell, her daughters Meredith Tennent and Brittain Tennent; granddaughter Gisele; brothers Billy Mitchell (Alexis) and Joseph Mitchell (Joelle), as well as many cousins, nieces and nephews. She is also remembered by the Tennent family. She leaves behind many cherished friends that shared her love of skiing, hiking, reading, and socializing with friends. A Celebration of Gayle’s life will be held at 1 PM on Saturday, October 6, 2018, at Calvary Lutheran Church, 950 Bradley St NE, Concord, NC 28025. An informal visitation will follow the service.
