Robert R. Lahoud, “Eli”, 71, of North Providence, Rhode Island, died suddenly September 21, 2018. Robert was the beloved husband of Paula S (DiMuccio) Lahoud for 46 years. Born and raised in Newport, he was the son of the late Elias J. Lahoud and Elizabeth P. (Hall) Lahoud. He leaves his sister Elizabeth Bowen, of Los Angeles, CA and brother John H. Lahoud and sister-in-law Alice (Dwyer ) Lahoud of The Villages, FL. He was uncle of John H. Lahoud Jr. of Costa Rica and Jennifer A. Lahoud, and Great Uncle of Maxwell Gilbane and Elana Kai Lahoud. Robert (“Eli”) attended Saint Mary’s Elementary School, Newport and graduated De LaSalle Academy in Newport, (Class of ’65). Bob played on the Baccari Softball Team at Cardi’s Field, Newport. His best friend, Paul Sauve, gave him the nickname “Eli.” He earned an Associates of Arts Degree (1967) at Rhode Island Junior College at the Providence Promenade Street Campus, presently Community College of Rhode Island. Robert was a basketball athlete and played as point guard on the first team for Rhode Island Junior College “Knights” and was lead scorer, with Hall of Famer Vincent Cullen as his coach. He was in the second graduating class of the college. Bob also organized college basketball games at Quonset Hut with major-star college players. He was a member of the North Providence Pool & Fitness Center for over 30 years and made many life-time friends there. For many years, Bob and his wife Paula were owners of Multi National Carpet Sales of Rhode Island with Providence, Cranston, Warwick, and North Providence locations. Bob also managed the Cumberland Farms on Mineral Spring Avenue, North Providence. As a parking supervisor at Miriam Hospital he was nominated for the Jerome Capolsky Employee Award. He was awarded a certificate for Non-Violent Crisis Intervention while at Rhode Island Hospital. Bob was an avid and longtime fan of the Boston Red Sox, Boston Celtics, Boston Bruins and the Rhode Island Reds. Bob served his country in the US Air Force during the Vietnam Era. He was stationed at Otis Air Force Base, Strategic Air Command (SAC), Cape Cod, MA. He Captain of the Otis Air Force Base basketball team. Bob’s wit was renowned. Friends enjoyed his Irish humor and fun-loving personality. He was a constant source of love and joy for his wife and will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him. Visiting Hours are respectfully omitted. Relatives and friends are invited to attend Bob’s Mass of Christian Burial Friday at 10 am at Blessed Sacrament Church, 179 Academy Avenue, Providence.
