Obituary for Rita H. Breitenstein Rita H. Breitenstein, 95 years, of Columbia, IL, passed away on August 30, 2018 at her residence. She was born April 27, 1923, in Waterloo, IL, daughter of the late Vincent and Clara, nee Marquardt, Rick. She was married to the late Harry L. Breitenstein. They were married September 4, 1943. He had passed away March 3, 1995. Rita was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Columbia, IL, where she had been active with the Altar Sodality, and the Columbia Senior Citizens. She had been a seamstress at Ely Walker, Belleville, IL, and Charles Todd, Columbia, IL. One of her passions in life was quilting, having stitched several hundred over the years, and was an avid Cardinal Baseball fan. Surviving are 6 sons, Harry (Roberta) Breitenstein of Waterloo, IL, Richard Breitenstein of Waterloo, IL, Bernard Breitenstein of St. Clair, MO, Eugene Breitenstein of O’Fallon, IL, Michael (Ronda) Breitenstein of St. Louis, MO, and Ken (JoAnne) Breitenstein of Columbia, IL; daughter, Denise (Christopher) Sueme of St. Louis, MO; 27 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; 3 sisters, Sr. Anna Rick of Springfield, IL, Coletta (Walter) Rau of Waterloo, IL and Eunice (Max) Warren of TN, along with other relatives and friends. She was also preceded in death by her daughter, Antoinette Breitenstein; 3 brothers, Armin, Emil, and Ervin Rick, 3 sisters, Florence Scheibe, Alice Doffin, and Elsie Stark; and daughter-in-law, Sheila, nee Kimme, Breitenstein. Visitation will be Tuesday, September 4, 2018, 4:00 pm – 8:00 pm, at Lawlor Funeral Home, Columbia, IL, and Wednesday, September 5, 2018, 9:00 am – 10:00 am, Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Columbia, IL. Funeral Mass will be held, Wednesday September 5, at 10:00 am, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Columbia, IL, with Fr. Carl Scherrer, officiating. Interment will follow in the Immaculate Conception Cemetery, Columbia, IL.
