She was an active, lifelong Catholic and was a parishioner of the Cathedral of Saint Paul. Her faith was the cornerstone of her life and an example for many. This was evident as family and friends often requested that she pray for them. She had a lifelong devotion to the Blessed Mother and strived to pray the rosary daily. In addition to being a mother of seven children, she was a bookkeeper for an auto repair business owned by her father and subsequently by her husband. She was a loving and devoted daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, and sister. She opened her home and table to family, friends and strangers. Gloria was a wonderful cook and enjoyed trying out new recipes on her always growing and hungry family. Nothing pleased her more than having all of her family around her. She also entertained countless priests with her delicious gourmet meals. Even though she raised seven children and had a busy life, she always found time for other people. She was a consummate care-giver who embodied unconditional love. Her other joys were the beach, her house, and her yard. As she was homebound for the last few years of her life, one of her greatest pleasures was watching the beautiful birds on her numerous bird feeders. All this being said Gloria was a perfect example of a gracious, poised lady and was greatly admired by many. The family would like to thank all of her caregivers especially, Jennifer Smith who tenderly cared for our mother like a daughter. Visitation will be held Friday September 7, 2018, from 5:30 to 6:45 PM, followed by the Rosary, at Johns Ridout’s Funeral Parlor Southside, 2116 University Blvd., Birmingham, AL.
