Craig Louis Plaszenski, 66, of Horseshoe Drive, Penfield, died, Thursday, September 13, 2018 at home after a lengthy illness. A triplet son of the late Clifford and Katherine (Zernell) Plaszenski, he was born February 22, 1952 in DuBois, PA. On September 9, 1972, he married Barbara L. Smith who survives in Penfield. Along with his wife, Craig is survived by: four children, Laurie (Randy) Matson of Warren, Jim (Lisa) Plaszenski of Penfield, David (Ayla Porter) Plaszenski of Penfield and Bud (Courtney) Plaszenski of Pittsburgh; four grandchildren, Dakota Matson, Sierra Matson, Brittany Gunsallus and Emberly Plaszenski; two brothers, his triplet, Curtis “Peewee” Plaszenski of Kersey and Clifford “Squeak” Plaszenski of Colorado; a sister, Mary Walters of Emporium; many nieces and nephews, whom he loved dearly; and his loving dog, Daisy. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by: two sisters, Katherine “Mickey” Burkett and Patricia Emmert; and his triplet brother Charles at four days old. Craig graduated from DuBois Area High School class of 1971 and was a Coal Miner, working deep mines and strip mines for Stoker’s, Lady Jane mines and Rosebud Mining Cleaning Plant, where he was fondly known as the “Coal Marshall”. From 1972 – ’75 he served in the US Army being stationed in Fort Hood, TX and thirteen months on the DMZ in Korea, among other assignments. He was a member of the Vietnam Veterans Association Post 720 and the Bennetts Valley American Legion Post 978 where he also served on the Honor Guard. Craig and two of his brothers were said to be the first set of triplets born in the Maple Avenue Hospital of DuBois, PA. He was well known for walking many miles a day and helping out many friends and neighbors. Craig would be seen walking in the Penfield and Sabula areas where he would stop and chat with those who would have his company and would take the time to help out anyone who could use an extra hand. He also enjoyed time at his camp in Sabula, hunting, the outdoors and the “Old Farts Club” on Sunday mornings. There will be no visitation. The family will be receiving friends from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. at the Penfield Firemen’s Training Center (The old Penfield Grange Hall) on Saturday, October 6, 2018. A Celebration of Life will be held, 11:00 a.m., Saturday, October 6, 2018 at the Training Center in Penfield, with Reverend David Miller. The family suggests memorials to the Vietnam Veterans Association Post 720 or the Bennetts Valley American Legion Post 978 and will be accepting online condolences at www.nedzafamilyfuneralhomes.com.
