Obituary of Walter Joseph Edler Walter Joseph Edler, 82, of Bay City, our kind and considerate, loyal, smart, and overall good-natured husband, Dad, Papa, brother, uncle, and friend was born into eternal life on the afternoon of Monday, July 30, 2018 at McLaren Bay Region after a courageous one-month illness. Walt was born in Bay City on November 20, 1935, the son of the late Harry and Anna (Bouckaert) Edler. In 1955, while at a wedding, Walt met the former Darlene VanOchten. They dated, fell in love, and were united in marriage on November 16, 1958. Throughout life, Walt was a devoted farmer (who never wanted to retire) and could fix anything. A former parishioner of St. Joseph Church, Walt was also very family-oriented and loved his wife, family, and farm dearly. Through thick and thin, he was a Detroit Tigers fan and enjoyed his John Deere tractors and new red pickup truck. Above all, Walt loved spending time with his grandchildren. He will be deeply missed, but lovingly remembered for years to come. He leaves to cherish his memory, his devoted wife of 60 years, Darlene and their three children: Debra Noonan (Jim Murphy), James (Jennifer) Edler, and Sherri (T.R.) Adcock. Walt was the loving and supportive Papa of Lindsey Boyd, Brandon and Shawn Noonan, Cameron and Caleb Adcock, and will be deeply missed by his siblings, Mary Ann Sauber (Jerry Buck), Donald Edler, Marilyn Kelly; in-laws, Florence VanOchten, JoAnne VanOchten, and Kay VanOchten, along with many nieces, nephews, and friends. In addition to his parents, Walt was welcomed home to heaven by his brothers, James and Albert Edler, and daughter, Lynn Ann Boyd. Walt’s family will be present to receive visitors on Thursday, August 2, 2018 from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM with a 7:00 PM Prayer Service for Walt. Visiting will continue on Friday, August 3, 2018 from 10:00 AM until Walt’s 11:00 AM Tribute Ceremony at Skorupski Family Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 955 N. Pine Rd., Hampton Twp. A reception will follow in The Wesley Room at Skorupski’s. Interment will be held privately in St. Patrick Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be directed to the wishes of the family. The entire family wishes to extend a heartfelt thanks to Dr. Benitez and the CCU nurses at McLaren for their compassionate care. Expressions of sympathy may be shared with the family online at www.skorupskis.com.
Our most sincere sympathies to the family and friends of Walter Joseph Edler 1935 2018.
