Virginia Laspe Bruneske October 14, 1923-July30, 2018 It is with great sadness that the family of Virginia “Ginny” Bruneske announces her passing on Monday, July 30, 2018 at 94 years of age. Virginia will be lovingly remembered by her children, Kathy and Brian, her daughter-in-law, Jan and granddaughter, Ashley. Virginia was preceded in death by her parents, Henry Frederick Laspe and Ruth (Whitmore) Laspe Werdebaugh, husband, Retd. Lieutenant Colonel Bernard E. Bruneske, and brother, Harold Laspe. A lifelong resident of Pen Mar, Maryland, she was the last surviving graduating member of Smithsburg High School, Class of 1940. Virginia drew inspiration for the mountain’s natural beauty for her artwork. She and her late husband, “Bernie” Bruneske, were instrumental in the 1977 reopening of historic Pen Mar Park. A celebration of life will be held at 2:00 P.M., Thursday, August 2, 2018 in Pen Mar Church of the Brethren, Cascade, MD with the Rev. Terry Marshall officiating. Burial will follow in Harbaugh Church Cemetery, near Rouzerville, PA. The family will receive friends from 1:00 P.M. to 2:00 P.M., Thursday in the church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to: Pen Mar Church of the Brethren, in care of Betty Trite, 24816 Pen Mar Road, Cascade, MD 21719.
